CRMER Fellows Finish Chicago Trip with Aon

The Student Fellows’ final industry visit on the Chicago trip was on Friday, September 11 with Aon Risk Solutions, which is a division Aon plc.

Ann Gariti, Managing Director of Sales at Aon Risk Solutions, greeted the group and gave a brief overview of Aon’s business.

Gariti then arranged for a panel of Aon Risk Solutions employees to come in and talk with the Fellows about their careers. Brendan Cronin, associate broker, spoke first about his work within crisis management specific to political risk with the agency.

Britt Woodbury, account specialist, followed up with the work she does. Woodbury was able to give the fellows a feel for how many people work with each client and what jobs are given to each staffer.

CRMER Fellow, Nick Scherrer, economics major, said that he was thankful to visit Aon because they are titans of the industry.

“This gave an in-depth perspective of the ins and outs of commercial broking, there are so many things available job wise for us students coming out of college,” Scherrer said. “It was great to visit Aon because when studying econ it is often more about how to think instead of how to apply it and this visit really gave insight on application.”

With varied experience, the panel provided insight about careers with Aon Risk Solutions. Following these conversations, the group had an opportunity for a casual Q&A over lunch. The Fellows finished their visit to Aon with a trip to the 80th floor of the Aon Center for spectacular views of the Chicago skyline.

The Fellows would like to extend thanks to Aon Risk Solutions, Ann Gariti, and the members of the panel for their time, insights, and hospitality which they most graciously shared with the Student Fellows.
